We came across a article on Ars Technica, which details a (class action) lawsuit that was filed against the Golden State Warriors, Signal360 and developer Yinzcam, because of their usage of the Signal360 SDK. This SDK includes beaconing technology that uses audio beacons (besides other means). Doing so, the lawsuit claims, makes the app listen constantly to it’s environment using the microphone, which leads to privacy concerns.
We thought it would be interesting to do a bit of research into which apps are using this Signal360 SDK, so we took a look at our database and found the following 11 apps.
We see a lot of Yinzcam apps (look at the package), so that explains why the people behind the lawsuit are going after Yinzcam. Fruther a few foreign apps, from Italy and Peru. Download counts are way higher then the SilverPush apps we researched earlier, and more apps are from the US, making it more relevant.
